Fabulous Puerto Banus

Guide To Puerto Banus

Definitely one of the slickest and most glamorous resorts in Europe, Puerto Banus continues to attract the jetset from all over the world who return each year to enjoy the beaches, the restaurants and the warm Marbella climate.

José Banus first built the Marina as a place for the world´s aristocrats to come and play, relax and enjoy the sunshine, and Puerto José Banus first started attracting rich visitors in the 1960´s. This was the time when tourism was booming in southern Spain and a massive construction drive all along the coast was replacing much of the Andalucian-style buildings with modern constructions, complexes and holiday apartments, still evident today.

From its humble beginnings, Puerto Banus was transformed into a stunning marina and attracted the owners of luxury yachts, who came to the resort to moor their boats and enjoy the fabulous bars, restaurants and night clubs opening up all over the area. The 1970´s bought a whole new crowd to Puerto Banus, and legends of screen and stage mingled happily with the more dubious villains on the run.

Puerto Banus is still one hell of a party town, but is much more accessible to budget travellers with the introduction of cheaper flights to Malaga. Banus is just a 40 minute drive from Malaga Airport.

Hotel packages are readily available in Puerto Banus, along with luxury villa rentals, apartment rentals and a vast choice of top end luxury you are unlikely to find in other parts of the coast.

Puerto Banus is home to a fantastic marina, incredible shops and designer boutiques and some incredible restaurants, including tapas bars, fine dining restaurants, cafés, pubs and night clubs, which open until the early hours of the next day.

Visitors can enjoy a pint of Guinness, fast food, champagne bars, pizza joints, lap dancing clubs and a whole range of late night entertainment venues to suit all tastes and budgets. Stag nights and Hen parties are also well catered for, with many pubs and clubs in the port offering special deals and promotions for parties booked in advance.

Marbella and Puerto Banus boast many excellent beach bars and seafood restaurants overlooking the Med. Visitors can enjoy fresh sardines cooked on the beach, lobster, crab and a choice of fabulous fish caught locally, for a fraction of the price they would pay in the UK.

Nueva Andalucia is situated just half a kilometre from Puerto Banus and offers more restaurants, a great Saturday market, and some of the most famous golf courses in the area. Golf Valley, aptly named, takes in the courses at Las Brisas, Los Naranjos, Aloha Golf and La Dama de Noche, and sports enthusiasts can also find plenty of things to keep them busy on the local beaches, including skiing, kite surfing, parasailing and jet skiing.

If you are looking for some fun on the beach, chill out on one of the two beaches in Puerto Banus either side of the marina. Summer events include live DJ´s and beach parties and a host of singers and dancers at the beach clubs. Some of the top beach clubs in Marbella and Puerto Banus include The Ocean Club in Puerto Banus, Nikki Beach in Elviria, Marbella and La Sala Beach, Puerto Banus.

If you are looking for some luxury in Puerto Banus, you can hire a luxury car, such as a Ferrari or a Rolls Royce, or even a luxury yacht so you can join the jet set and make the most of the incredible Mediterranean. Motor boat and sailboat charters are available, with or without crew, but if you are an inexperienced sailor, a captain can be provided at a cost.

Some of the most beautiful yachts in the world moor at the marinas of Marbella and Puerto Banus, where boat owners can enjoy some of the best hospitality Spain has to offer. Puerto Banus is set before a backdrop of mountains and the views around the marina are stunning.

A wide choice of boats can be chartered, including smaller vessels, large catamarans and the ultimate in luxurious cruisers. Boats can be chartered by the day or the week, and the cost can be much more reasonable than first anticipated.

Pick ups from Malaga Airport to the vessel can also be included, which proves particularly popular with corporate or family groups.

Some of the best places to visit from Puerto Banus include Marbella, Benalmadena, Estepona or Gibraltar. Boat charters to Morocco are also available but can prove expensive. The Rock of Gibraltar sits at the entrance of the Mediterranean, and is connected to Spain by a sandy passage. Its strategic location, between Europe and Africa, and its amazing history have made it a bone of contention between the UK and Spain for many years. If you want to visit Gibraltar and make the most of the British shops, bars and restaurants, not to mention a Morrison´s Supermarket, it takes around 2 hours by boat and just 45 minutes by car.

Flights into Malaga can be booked from most European cities, and the flight time from London, England is just over 2 hours.

Marbella and Puerto Banus on the Costa Del Sol enjoy an average 320 days of sunshine a year in which to enjoy yachting, golfing and a host of other pastimes. There is no better place in Europe to enjoy a holiday than the Costa del Sol.

Whether you are planning a golfing holiday with the boys, a hen weekend with the girls, a luxury spa weekend, a shopping trip or a lazy week on the beach, you will find everything you want in Puerto Banus. Make the most of the laid back atmosphere out of season, the wild beach clubs in summer and the great restaurants and bars at the water´s edge.

Puerto Banus is a great holiday destination for families, individuals, couples or groups of friends and whatever you fancy doing in this funky part of southern Spain, whether it be chilling out on the beach, dancing till dawn or eating in some of the most famous restaurants in Andalucia, you will find it all, and more in Puerto Banus. It is unlikely José Banus could have envisaged how Puerto Banus would have evolved over the years, and it still attracts the jet setters and the celebs from all over the world.

Whatever floats your boat, you will find it in Puerto Banus.
